On Friday 11th October we, in collaboration with local folk group Northern Frisk, presented UNITE AND BE FREE, a show telling the story of the Peterloo Massacre, when 200 years ago a peaceful political demonstration in Manchester was attacked by sabre-wielding Yeomanry Cavalry. There were 18 deaths and over 600 injuries.
The Peterloo Massacre was extraordinarily well-documented: not only in newspaper articles, court reports and eyewitness accounts but in poetry and song as well. Out of all of these we have constructed a narrative, the intention of which is both to outline the history and to entertain.
Friday’s performance was so successful, and so many were unable to get a seat that we have decided to perform it again. Friday 15th November is the date – 7.30pm at the Judges’ Lodgings, Lancaster, with tickets priced at £6. Book via email firstname.lastname@example.org, or telephone 01524 581241. Book early: space is limited!
